National Symbol includes all cultural, historical and practical elements that have an emotional value and which are important for a community’s people, as a national unity.
The following can be symbols:
- Cultural Objects: kachu (horn), konfó (iron object in which a fire is made for cooking), fòrnu di pan (bread ovens), washi (washing board), pal’i lele (type of whisk).
- Anansi stories, work songs and also typical house-building styles.
- Sites of memory: Christoffel Park, city center, St. Anna Bay, Handelskade facade, traditional adobe house, Curaçao country houses and bays.
- Folkloric elements: traditional costumes, hemp-soled sandal, sinkuria (type of straw hat), mahogany furniture and also events such as a folklore parade in Punda with music and harvest songs and Tumba Festival.
