Intangible Cultural Heritage

Intangible Cultural Heritage is among others the memory and experience behind an object.

The memory of an object are all the expressions, traditions and customs that have helped create this object in order to serve the human being in his/her daily needs. The experience of the person who uses the object, gives it an added value, either individually or collectively. The use of the object also produces experiences, customs, traditions and memories.

Intangible Cultural Heritage is:

The wisdom of our ancestors in their way of expressing themselves (among others: talking, singing, gesticulating), behaving, (living, customs, etc.), working and creating artefacts (profession).
So, Intangible Cultural Heritage is all the wisdom of our ancestors in their way of talking (language) [idioma], doing things, making things and which was passed on from generation to generation and that we have inherited today.

Intangible Cultural Heritage is among others:

  • Oral tradition;
  • Expressive art;
  • Social practices a.o. festive events;
  • Opinions and customs related to practices regarding nature and the universe.
